Freight Transportation

The Santa Maria Valley Railroad provides daily freight service to our customers along our 14 miles of well maintained mainline track. Our tracks are rated to transport 286,000 lb rail cars. We can accommodate transload customers, which enables customers who are not directly served on our line to enjoy the benefits of the cost savings and lower environmental impacts of rail transportation.

The Santa Maria Valley Railroad is located on the Central Coast of California, 250 miles south of San Francisco and 175 miles north of Los Angeles. The Santa Maria Valley Railroad interchanges with the Union Pacific Railroad at Guadalupe, California, connecting with Union Pacific Railroad’s Coast Line and the entire rail system of North America.

The Santa Maria Valley Railroad operates 7 days a week. We are closed for major holidays only and are here to serve your custom needs.

Dining and Wine Tour - Coming Soon

Take a trip back in time when life was easier and elegant.  Coming soon the SMVRR will feature a 2 hour wine and dining tour taking a leisurely trip from downtown Santa Maria to the historic coastal enclave of Guadalupe and back again.  Fabulous 4 course meals and amazing local wines will hearken back to yesteryear. 

These dinner tours will become a regular tradition for you and yours and will be remembered for years!  The dining experience will be starting in the Fall of 2023 in a newly refurbished dining car so be sure to check back here for news and ticket sales.  Seats will be limited and will sell out fast!
